In the first video series on MPLS (“Introduction to MPLS”) you learned the basics of how to implement MPLS in a network, the mandatory requirements and protocols, as well as configuration and verification steps. This course will now teach you about how MPLS VPNs work. You’ll learn about the benefits of using MPLS VPNs, and MPLS VPN terminology such as “CE” routers, “PE” routers and “P” routers. We’ll also discuss how BGP and usage of VRFs are necessary requirements for MPLS VPNs and how they all tie together. We’ll cover how the MPLS VPN label stack is built and propagated between routers using both LDP and BGP. Lastly we’ll cover how to configure various routing protocols between the CE and PE routers, as well as a couple of MPLS VPN features like the BGP Cost Community and the Site of Origin community.
