In March and April 2018, he conducted productions of Verdi’s Macbeth, directed by Ivo van Hove; the five-act version of Verdi’s Don Carlos; and a concert performance of Verdi’s Attila as part of Opéra National de Lyon’s Verdi Festival.

Rustioni’s second season as the company’s Principal Conductor includes a new production of Boïto’s rarity Mefistofele directed by Alex Ollé in October 2018; a concert performance of Verdi’s Nabucco with Leo Nucci in the title role; and Tchaikovsky’s seldom performed The Enchantress in a new production by Andriy Zholdak.
